Inclined Platform Lifts and Heritage Buildings

March 2009 - An inclined platform lift is the perfect solution when attempting to make a heritage building wheelchair accessible. Unlike a vertical lift , these platform lifts require a minimal amount of contractual work to the building, thus eliminating the need alter the aesthetics or change the existing structure. It is possible in some situations to install these lifts without altering the wall structure.  Independent support towers can carry the required load eliminating the need to open up the wall to add blocking. Custom colors or finishes can also be provided allowing the designer to maintain the overall look of the building.  When folded up these platform lifts will have a minimal effect on the stairway.

An inclined platform lift can accommodate straight ( Garaventa Xpress II ) or curved ( Garaventa Artira ) stairways. The aforementioned lifts both satisfy the B-355-00 code and are currently installed in many public buildings throughout the province.
